I have greatly enjoyed Mr. Swafford's Beginner's Guide to Classical Music and have learned a lot form it. I'll have to check out some of his other writings.

I heard from him Bach Chaconne for left hand. What a great performance I heard the performance live from Helene Grimaud once in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and that was very good but Alexandre performance is also very good. He tels a story written by Bach. That is why I love classical music and Bach so much. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Kent Nagano’s humility and self- awareness gives us insight into his musical soul. His ability as a conductor with the outstanding Russian pianist Mikhail Pletnev in performances of Mozart. Beethoven , Schubert and other composers show hours and hours of practice to produce beauty.

Just learned today that Lars Vogt passed away, and came across this remarkable interview. "I would love it if they would have a sense of what it can mean if you can do something on an instrument that really speaks to your soul. That would be wonderful. And you don't have to play Paganini Caprices to do that, You can play Album fuer die Jugend, which often you can do after one year of piano teaching. You have some of the most amazing pieces in front of you that are quite easy to play. And yet, you are already asked as an artist to do something with it." In complete tears. What an extraordinary, loving encouragement to us amateur musicians! ...I need to pick up my violin again.

Mr. Zsolt Bognar - Thank you so much for this wonderful interview with Lief Ove Andsnes, one of my favorite pianists. I enjoyed watching it. I feel privileged and glad I am going to attend Rosendal Music Festival in August 2024. It will be a life experience for me.

Back in the late 80s or early 90s I interviewed him for the Schwann's magazine, when he was guest conducting the Minnesota Orchestra. A delightful man, and a delightful interview. I have a number of his Chandos CDs from that period and treasure them.

It reminds me of the occasion that I ran into you and your musician friends Alexander and Johnny in Berlin near the Deutsche Oper: synchronicity. And I am so grateful that you and your agent invited me to hear you and Alexander do the the Grieg Sonata in the Bechstein rooms. What struck me especially about this interview is the fact that you mentioned honesty: honesty in playing music which would include honesty towards your fellow musicians and towards your audience and communicating that honesty. I still hope to get to Germany to hear you do the Bruch and a recital. Be well, my friend and thanks again for this fantastic interview.❤

That part, beginning at 12:48. True story, in 1998, I was at Valparaiso University as an adjunct piano teacher, about to give a recital with my graduate school friend, a program of music by African American female composers, mind you. I was finishing a rehearsal with my student at the same time the VU Law School was conducting its mock trials. Associate Justice Clarence Thomas was coming out of the theater at the same time as my student and I were coming out of the recital hall. My student wanted to meet him. Reluctantly (on my part), we went up to him and introduced ourselves. I told him we were preparing for a recital the following night. He looked interested and asked the fatal question, "Oh really? What are you singing?" I explained that we were pianists, but this happens so many times. If you're African American and female, you must be a singer. I applaud Michelle Cann's fortitude to play the music that matters. We continue to strive.
